Purpose of this site:

The focus of this site is J.A.P. Campbell (1830-1917), whose role in American history some researchers

believe has been underexamined, especially because it does not fit into quickly explained categories.

Who is this website for?

This website is targeted to historians, researchers, journalists, academicians and students who

are interested in learning more about the historical foundations of white supremacy in the United States.

Why is a study of J.A.P. Campbell’s role in history important?

J.A.P. Campbell has been called the Father of White Supremacy because he was the architect

of its legal foundation in the United States. After the Civil War, he wrote or influenced Mississippi

laws that eventually became the blueprint for the rest of the South’s denial of black citizenship rights.

Many of those laws are still in force today.
